Planting Active Reading into the Imaginations of Children one Laugh at a Time.
The Detroit Literacy Garden is a grass roots effort to make reading fun for children in Detroit, MI.
Detroit children have the lowest reading and math test scores of big city school districts. In fact, recent test scores show that most 4th graders tested did not have the basic skills to read. In short, they suffer illiteracy. There is a new day in public Education here in Detroit with a new chief, financial help from the state and return of local school control. |
DLit Garden's goal is to work with all stake holders of Detroit's children. We don't want to fix blame.
Our mission is to help fix the problem as it relates to childhood literacy. Detroit children, cannot afford to be ill prepared in the new Detroit. Detroit Lit Garden is on a mission. We're motivating children to want to read. We make reading FUN!
